In 2001, he became the founding director of the Blue Room Gallery, a non-profit contemporary art gallery. It soon became one of the largest and most respected galleries in San Francisco.
Along with an international roster of career artists, the Blue Room Gallery brought new art and fresh perspectives to the arts community, conducted arts education programs and events, and exhibited some of the finest painting, photography and sculpture in the Bay Area.
In 2006, the Blue Room Gallery building was sold and the gallery closed, forcing Paul to find a new space to recreate his vision. In 2007 he reopened as the Paul Mahder Gallery in a beautiful space in the prestigious Presidio Heights neighborhood.
In September of 2014 the Paul Mahder Gallery expanded opening a second gallery in Healdsburg, California one hour north of San Francisco in the heart of the wine country. In an iconic double Quonset with 30' ceilings, skylights and 10,000 square feet, it is the largest gallery north of Los Angeles. Along with museum quality exhibits, it also serves the community as an important cultural event space.
Offering a wide range of painting, sculpture, photography, drawing and more, the gallery has become a “mini museum” with numerous premiere west coast exhibitions.
Paul Mahder, a professional fine art photographer since 1994 and art business professional with a degree in art management, provides a unique perspective as artist and businessman in building collections for the serious art collector as well as providing direction for beginning art enthusiasts.
